Test Purpose

What the DR-D211 Can—and Cannot—Evaluate

The system is suited to comparative external-flame exposure of cells, steel-shell battery specimens and small assemblies within its size and mass limits. It can help characterize visible fire response, but it is not automatically a calorimeter, gas-analysis system, full pack fuel-fire bench or certification laboratory.

Cell Design Screening

Compare casing, vent and protective-design behavior under the same burner setup and observation procedure.

Materials and Enclosure R&D

Observe whether housings, shields and nearby materials ignite, deform, detach or permit fragment release.

Failure Documentation

Record flame time, visible events, surface temperatures and video when the configured instrumentation supports them.

Do not call every event “thermal runaway.” External flame exposure may heat, ignite or trigger a cell, but thermal runaway initiation and propagation require defined criteria and measurements.
