Environmental Chamber for Battery Testing

Control temperature and optional humidity around lithium-ion cells, modules or battery packs while connecting external cyclers, monitoring channels and application-specific safety systems. What This Battery Environmental Chamber Is Designed to Do

A battery environmental chamber creates a controlled climate around an energized or non-energized specimen. It can support storage, performance, cycle-life and reliability programs in which temperature, humidity, voltage, current and specimen condition must be observed together.

Depending on the battery type and market, a project may reference UN Manual of Tests and Criteria subsection 38.3, IEC 62133-2, IEC 62660 series, ISO 12405-4, UL 1642, UL 2054, SAE J2464 or an OEM procedure. These documents address different products and test purposes.

  • UN 38.3: transport testing for lithium cells and batteries; confirm the applicable manual revision and amendments.
  • IEC 62133-2: safety requirements and tests for portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries.
  • IEC 62660 series: secondary lithium-ion cells for electric road-vehicle propulsion.
  • ISO 12405-4: performance testing for electrically propelled road-vehicle battery packs and systems.

Compliance boundary: a chamber can provide the required environmental conditions, but it does not by itself certify a cell, module or pack. Compliance depends on the complete test setup, calibrated instrumentation, procedure, specimen and acceptance criteria.

Is humidity always required for battery testing?

What temperature range should I choose?

Choose the range from the exact procedure and include margin for control under specimen load. The source configuration states -40°C to +80°C, but colder or hotter applications require a confirmed model and refrigeration design.

Does the chamber comply with UN 38.3?

The chamber may provide environmental conditions used in parts of a UN 38.3 test program. It does not alone establish compliance; the complete method, instruments, specimen handling and test report must satisfy the applicable revision.

Which battery safety options are available?

Projects may require pressure relief, exhaust, temperature/smoke/gas detection, remote monitoring, cycler shutdown interlocks and a suppression interface. The final package is selected after a hazard assessment.

Can the chamber be customized for EV packs?

Yes. Workspace, floor loading, door, ports, coolant connections, cable routing, airflow, safety devices and controls can be engineered around the pack and facility. Provide a drawing and maximum heat-load data for review.
