Mobile Phone IPX3 IPX4 Rain Test Chamber

Evaluate smartphone and handheld-device enclosures against spraying and splashing water using a programmable oscillating tube, rotating specimen table, controlled water delivery and repeatable test timing. The system is intended for development, quality control and pre-compliance work based on the applicable IEC 60529 procedure.

What This Phone IP Test Chamber Actually Tests

The second character in an IP code identifies protection against water ingress. This chamber reproduces the spraying and splashing conditions associated with IPX3 and IPX4. It helps engineers evaluate enclosure joints, display bonding, buttons, speaker openings, charging ports, camera windows, SIM trays and other potential ingress paths.

A removable-nozzle oscillating tube distributes water around the specimen according to the selected test geometry.

A driven turntable rotates the phone or fixture so exposed surfaces receive consistent coverage during the programmed cycle.

Results are determined using the applicable acceptance criteria, such as internal moisture inspection and functional verification—not by the chamber alone.

How the Oscillating Water Test Works

1. Program the Motion

The controller coordinates tube movement, exposure time and specimen-table rotation according to the selected procedure.

2. Condition the Water Supply

The storage tank, filter and replenishment system supply water to the pump. Final water quality and temperature must follow the laboratory procedure.

3. Control Flow and Distribution

The pump delivers water through the flow-measurement system to the oscillating tube. Nozzle size, spacing, tube radius and flow must match the required setup.

4. Inspect the Device

After exposure, the operator follows the defined handling, opening and functional-check procedure to assess whether water caused a harmful effect.

The supplied design uses an oscillating tube and rotating table, so its primary application is IPX3 and IPX4 spraying/splashing tests. Other ratings require dedicated equipment unless additional modules are specifically engineered.

Can one chamber test both dust and water resistance?

Not this design. Dust circulation and water exposure require different chamber construction and measurement systems. Use separate dust and water equipment to avoid contamination and inaccurate conditions.

Can it test several phones at the same time?

Yes, if the table, tube radius, nozzle coverage and fixture allow every specimen to receive the required exposure. Provide the phone size, quantity and orientation so coverage can be reviewed.

Does passing the chamber cycle automatically grant an IP rating?

No. The result also depends on specimen preparation, exact exposure conditions, post-test inspection, acceptance criteria and the authority issuing the report or certification.

Can the phone operate during the water test?

It can when required by the test plan and when safe power or communication interfaces are provided. The operating mode must be documented because it may affect heating, pressure and functional acceptance.

Is recycled water acceptable?

A recirculating system can reduce consumption, but filtration, cleanliness, temperature and any standard-specific water requirements must remain controlled. Replace water according to the laboratory procedure.

How is the correct oscillating-tube size selected?

The radius is selected from the specimen and fixture envelope while maintaining the geometry required by the chosen method. Larger fixtures may require a larger tube or a different spray arrangement.
